Jonathan uses moving image, sound and text to examine and explore themes of memory, identity and loss. He draws upon fictional and non-fictional sources to create narrative driven works which employ cinematic forms of construction and presentation.
A core idea in his work is the shifting relationship between the subjects of his narratives and the environments they inhabit. The elements of time and space are frequently represented as uncertain and malleable while human beings are often presented in states of physical and psychological transformation. An awareness of the fragility and mutability of the human form and its processes is a central concern in the work he produces.
